As with any team having a long history of success, by nature there are many players who have contributed along the way. With this large number of quality players, one player who surely deserves mention is Gunnar Nordahl. He is Milan’s all time top scorer, with an impressive 210 league goals. A Swede, Gunnar came to Milan in 1949. Along with his countrymen Gunnar Gren and Nils Liedholm, this Swedish trio became known to the fans as Gre-No-Li. With this amazing trio, Milan scored an impressive 118 goals in 38 matches during the 1949-1950 season.

Consider the contributions of Gianni Rivera. Only 16 when he was signed to AC Milan. At the time, his transfer fee of $200,000 was record setting. He was nicknamed the Golden Boy of soccer, winning the Ballon d’or award (The Golden Ball), in 1969. The Ballon d’or is a prestigious title, awarded to the person who is considered the European Footballer of the year. He contributed to many victories for Milan, playing in 501 Serie A matches.

Another beloved player to play for Milan was Italian, Franco Baresi. Rejected when he tried out for Internazionale, Baresi decided to try out for their rival, Milan. He made the team, and proved to be a huge asset defensively. Playing his entire career with Milan, Baresi retired in 1997, helping Milan to six Serie A titles, and three European Cups during his years of play. Notably, he is one of the few players to receive the honor of having his jersey retired by Milan at the end of his career.

Continuing into current times, some of the better known faces in football have worn the Milan red and black. Ronaldinho, who was the FIFA World Player of the Year twice, turned down a very lucrative offer from Manchester City to play for Milan. And of course there is David Beckham, who admittedly was brought on to wear the Milan uniform as much for his commercial draw as for his skill. Players like the dynamic keeper Dida, will continue to keep the Milan team relevant and reaching for its highest potential. Certainly there is a change in today’s football players had taken place. Was it just before the profession of gambling, so football players today sporting businessmen. Former coach were formerly good players, so there are now more likely team leader, same like the coworker of a Job agency like Readyforce.
