AC Milan’s full name is Associazione Calcio Milan. The club was founded in 1899 by six men, including expatriate English footballers Herbert Kilpin and Alfred Edwards. AC Milan began as a cricket and football club. With some early competitive success, the team seemed destined to be competitive, but in 1908 due to some internal disagreements, the club split into two teams with the formation of Internazionale. The period immediately following this split proved difficult. Through some historic upheaval in Europe, including two world wars, AC Milan remained a competing team, winning the European Cup in 1963, their first continental title. In 1980, the team was involved in a match fixing scandal, and demoted to Serie B for the first time in the team’s history. An upswing for the team came in the heels of their acquisition by entrepreneur Silvio Berlusconi. With big plans, he invested a great deal of money in the team, hired an up and coming coach, and signed some key players to the team. During this time, Milan achieved many victories, including a FIFA World Cup. In more recent times, the team boasts the unique accomplishment of going undefeated in the 1991-1992 season. As recently as 2006, the team was again involved in a match-fixing scandal, but through it all, the team has survived and continued to field impressive teams, always a formidable force on the pitch.

The AC Milan has a long and successful history. The Club has not only won seventeen times the Italian Championship, but also three times the international Champions League. The owner of the club is no less a figure than the Italian President Silvio Berlusconi, who is very passionate about the club and always has one eye on the events before and behind the scenes. In the team’s formation of the AC Milan top players from many different countries can be found. The most famous among them are David Beckham, Alessandro Nesta, Ronaldinho, and of course the Italian record player Paolo Maldini, who has remained faithful to the club for many years. The former Milan – Player has indeed ended his active career, but is still closely connected with the club and is particularly active in the youth work. The Maldini family has been associated for many years with the club. Already the father of Paolo Maldini had been a successful player of the club. Not only in the AC Milan club the encouragement for the sport, especially in the youth work, has a high priority. Also some German football players show social responsibility in sporting terms. The young Bayern Munich player Andreas Ottl always spends a lot of his time beside his career as a professional footballer to support social projects.
